The need of a degree college at Nilbagan had been felt right since the early 1980s. A galaxy of education-lovers went even to the extent of collecting funds for the noble purpose. It is, however, a matter of regret that despite their great dedicative efforts, they fell short of their well-meaning goal. After long fifteen years, the zeal resurfaced with renewed verve and at the bold initiative a group of far-sighted and progressive academicians, intellectuals and prominent social activities of the locality, a degree college at Nilbagan saw the light of the day in the year 1995. The classes were initiated with a small number of students in the campus of Nilbagan Higher Secondary School, which is presently acclaimed as Model Higher Secondary School. But for the help and support of the member of the Nilbagan Higher Secondary School, the college would not have been what it is today. As the years passed, a great numbers of students were admitted and new teachers came up to render their selfless service. Even as the Managing Committee continued with their untiring efforts, the college was passing through a difficult times and the committee was in acute need of a philanthropist who could help the college march steadily along the path of progress.
